91% of Security and IT Professionals Agree Cybercriminals are Already Using AI in Email Attacks
This is a short but excellent post on summarizing a recent SlashNext survey of U.S. tech and security leaders at organizations of at least 1,000 employees. In the survey, 91% of respondents either agreed or strongly agreed that cybercriminals are already using AI in email attacks targeting their organizations, with 74% indicating they have experienced an increase in the use of AI by cybercriminals in the past six months.

Paramount, Forever 21 Data Breaches Set Stage for Follow-on Attacks
In a pair of breaches that were recently revealed; cyber attacks have hit media giant Paramount Global and fashion purveyor Forever 21, exposing personally identifiable information for thousands of people in the latter’s case and setting them up for a raft of follow-on attacks. For Forever 21, the retailer discovered the intrusion on August 4, but the unauthorized access took place between Jan. 5 and March 21.

Only 16% of Ransomware Victims Able to Fully Recover Data
An ESG study suggests that 80% of organizations surveyed stated that they expect their spending in support of ransomware preparedness to increase over the next 12 to 18 months. In addition, according to the study, 74 percent of respondents are concerned that their backups could be compromised by ransomware. Further, 3 in 4 respondent organizations have experienced a successful ransomware attack in the last 12 months. Among the 600 respondents, only 16 percent of those whose organization had experienced a successful ransomware attack were able to fully recover all their data after the attack, while a staggering 84 percent lost data they were not able to recoup.
